The principal aim of The Indocene Project is to collect, preserve and present information about the cultural, linguistic, geographical and political history of India.
The word Indocene refers to the Indian epoch. It is constructed by combining the prefix Indo- (from the Latin India, which comes from the Greek Indía/Indós and ultimately the Sanskrit Sindhu) which refers to India or its associated civilization, culture, geography and sphere of influence, and the suffix -cene (from the Ancient Greek καινός/kainós/-cene) meaning new/recent.
